Our Story

The Loving Lunch Project began with a simple observation and a heart for service. Founder Natalie Barnes first discovered her passion for fighting childhood hunger while volunteering at a similar non-profit organization in Houston. After transitioning into preschool education and hearing increasing discussions about 4-day school weeks, Natalie recognized that this would create a significant need in the community — children who depend on school meals would face additional days without reliable access to nutritious food.

While the 4-day school week was not implemented, Natalie realized that food insecurity was an issue that needed to be addressed in our community.

🍎 In 2026, The Loving Lunch Project was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to address this growing concern.

Based in Cedar City, Utah, we have partnered with Iron County School District for our beta site at Fiddlers Elementary, with plans to expand throughout the district.

The Loving Lunch Project feeds children in need and those qualifying for the state's free lunch program, ensuring that children have access to food outside of school hours so they can return to school nourished, supported, and ready to learn.
